Born in 1885, Kathleen McEnery lived in Rochester, New York for 57 years, until her death in 1971. She studied with noted painter Robert Henri at the New York School of Art and exhibited two figure paintings at the famous 1913 Armory Show in New York City. Married to Rochesterian Francis Cunningham of the successful Cunningham Carriage Company, McEnery served on the Board of the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, and was a founding faculty member of the Harley School in Rochester.
